2010 D-town Throwdown Recap
The 2nd D-town Throwdown at the American airlines center has now taken place. As many walk up to the arena they would see the AT&T plaza transformed into the “DTTD” with GP Audio’s show cars, Mastercraft boats, and the Heineken beer garden along with our other vendors a
Some have said that a skateboard contest would never happen
at this unique and amazing venue. In six short months we have now 2 events
in history books. March 2nd we took dreams to a new level.
While the 1st contest was strictly on the 6-stair, the 2010
DTTD included a “wilshire rail” replica along with a kicker to lander step
down ramp. The event took place before the Dallas Stars game versus the
Los Angeles Kings which made for a hyped crowd. The event garnered much more attention as we extended the opportunity for all Texas skaters to participate through three qualifying events. One at the famous Southside skate park in Houston, a second event at the Capital skate park in Austin and the final qualifier took place at the Alliance skate park in Grand Prairie. The DTTD roster of 21 was released and stacked with amazing Texas talent which was viewed by thousands on-site and 79 countries worldwide through our live web stream.
Redbull hooked it up again their stellar DJ and with the
Scenic cruiser on-site for our VIP’s such as Ryan Sheckler, Joey Brezenski,
Kareem Campbell and Mike Crum. The event started out with four rounds of qualifying where skaters were judged simply on the quantity and quality of their tricks. The finals were meant to be the great eight, but after review of the scores we found that two skaters were within one point of qualifying for the finals. With their level of skating so high we set the finals up with ten skaters. The final round was judged on quality first and quantity second. Sean Greene, last years champion was edged out for 3rd place by Houston’s Michael Buehler who landed a solid switch backside 50-50 on the rail taking home $300 and a Kicker Ipod dock. Ke’chaud Johnson grabbed $400 while destroying all the obstacles this year and finished second with a frontside 270 lipslide on the rail. This years Champion is from the Dallas underground. David Sauceda took the event by storm. He owned the stairs all night long and was the only rider to land his last impression trick and likely his version of a Hardflip revert aka the Ghetto bird catapulted him to the top spot earning him $600, a Kicker Audio system and the decorated 2010 DTTD champions Stars jersey. The 2010 DTTD was an amazing experience. The skating was amazing, the guys all had a banger and represented Texas skateboarding to the fullest extent.
Special thanks to all of our friends and sponsors at Redbull energy drink, Texas Mastercraft, Kicker Audio, Index skate supply, Grand Prairie Audio, Expedition one skateboards, Bones bearings, Access Dallas, and to our qualifier venues Alliance, Southside and Capital skateparks.
The 2011 event is already scheduled for March so look out!
