Dallas
Texas, The Big D, D-Town…was
the place to be on Friday November 6th, 2009 when the first
ever skate contest went down on the stairs of the AT&T Plaza at
the American Airlines Center. Only a hand full of Texas’s finest
skaters were selected to battle it out on the six stairs’ right
before the NHL’s Dallas Stars took on the Vancouver Canucks.
A variety of riders from all over North Texas were on deck and
throwing down some amazing tricks and blowing away the pre-game
crowd. Red Bull was on site putting tunes into the ears of the
crowd and also hosted a VIP area for Stars ticket holders. We
started with 16 riders and had three heats divided up between the
16. During these rounds, riders were being judged on quantity more
than quality so there were tons of tricks being laid out. After
the judges tallied up their scores, we ended up with a top 8 to
make up the finals. The last go around was judged on quality and
just as important was the quantity. So most riders stuck with just
a few of their best tricks they had to offer.
Taylor Bray qualified and got 3rd place by landing a
nollie 360 heelflip and a 360 ollie to name a few. Michael Tang
also qualified and came through with a huge varial heelflip and a
big laser flip down the six to lock up 2nd place. Our
winner for the first ever D-Town Throwdown was Sean Greene with a
whole variety of tricks such as back 360 ollie, an impossible and
finished it with a late backside bigspin. Sean walked away with
$300, a kicker IPOD dock and a handful of goodies from the
sponsors. Congrats to all the competitors! We are already
discussing another event for early 2010 that will be bigger and
will have more obstacles to skate in the plaza!
Big Thanks to
Red Bull, Kicker Audio, The Dallas Stars and Bones
bearings for all the event support along with The Kayo Corp, City
Stars, Grand Prairie and Index Skate Supply. |
